Pic of the Day: Every Headstone Has a Story
Charles Green apparently died while journeying from Liverpool, England, to Martinez on a ship called the "Manydown."

Thanks to Michael Lopez for this photo of Charles Green's headstone in a Martinez cemetery. Green was traveling on the "Manydown" ship, which was launched from Southampton, England, in 1884 by shipowners E. Bates & Sons of Liverpool.
After leaving Martinez, the was sold and renamed the "Cambrian Princesss." It saw the world — including Finland, South Africa and Rio de Janeiro — before being sunk in a collision with the Channel steamship Alma, 1,145 tons, in a fog, toward the end of March, 1902, according to the wreck report. Eleven of the crew were drowned.
