The Polar Adventures, A Book Talk & Signing w Geographer Joanna

Do you love history? The Arctic? Join us to hear Joanna Kafarowski talk about her new book The Polar Adventures of a Rich American Dame.

The Contra Costa County Historical Society presents author and geographer Dr. Joanna Kafarowski. Enjoy hearing Joanna talk about her new book The Polar Adventures of a Rich American Dame: A Life of Louise Arner Boyd.

Louise Arner Boyd, a former resident of Contra Costa County (Oakwood Park Stock Farm) and a woman who later achieved international notoriety as a rugged and audacious polar explorer while maintaining her flamboyant lifestyle as a leading philanthropist and society woman.

About the Author:

Dr. Joanna Kafarowski is a Canadian geographer and lecturer who has worked with Indigenous communities across the Arctic. She undertook ten years of research into Boyd’s life in archives and museums across Europe and North America. She is a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society, a Member of the Society of Woman Geographers, and an Associate of the American Geographical Society.
