1 Peninsula Burglary Suspect Arrested, 1 At Large: Police

Menlo Park Police responded to the burglary-in-progress call near University Dr. from an alert citizen on Sunday night.

MENLO PARK, CA — One suspect was arrested on suspicion of burglary while another remains at large in connection with a break-in of a construction site Sunday night, Menlo Park Police reported.

Police responded to the 6:04 p.m. call to the 600 block of University Drive on a claim from an alert resident reporting a possible burglary in progress of a construction site. When officers arrived on the scene, they found one person matching one of the descriptions given by the resident standing at the entrance of the construction site where the security gate had been cut. A vehicle registration check revealed the car was reported stolen from Santa Clara, according to the report.

Miguel Retana, 34, of San Jose, was booked into San Mateo County Jail on accusations of possession of stolen property and conspiracy.

A search of the site and the surrounding area by Menlo Park, Atherton and Palo Alto police officers with a K9 for the second suspect was unsuccessful. Police are currently working on several leads to help identify the second suspect and obtain an arrest warrant. He is no longer believed to be in the area, police added.
