Atherton School Named 'Blue Ribbon' Winner

Only 329 schools were selected nationwide.

ATHERTON, CA — Laurel Elementary School was awarded this week an honor only bestowed on a small fraction of schools nationwide, becoming a member of the latest National Blue Ribbon Schools class.

The U.S. Department of Education announced the winners Wednesday, which included a total of 329 schools across the country. Thirty-three of them are in California. The majority of California's winners, 19 of them, are located in the southern part of the state.

Laurel Elementary, which is part of the Menlo Park City School District, was included in the category for "Exemplary High Performing Schools."
