Characters Show up at the Library for Comic Con
All-ages event to feature live music, hands-on art… and Quidditch

Stormtroopers will be returning to the Menlo Park Main Library on June 22.
Those costumed characters and many others will be a part of the library’s 4th annual Comic Con, a free-admission celebration of comics, sci-fi, games, and movies will also feature live music, film screenings, artists & vendors, crafts, panel discussions, a photo booth, two tabletop gaming areas, quidditch, and cosplay (the opportunity for attendees to dress up as their favorite characters).
One new addition to this year’s event is the broom-borne sport of quidditch, introduced to the world in the Harry Potter books and films. Two local US Quidditch teams are scheduled to appear: the Silicon Valley Vipers and the Bay Area Breakers. The teams plan to demonstrate the game of quidditch as it is played in the Bay Area—close to the ground, but still with the broomsticks.

The Charles M. Schulz Museum will be returning this year, this time with its “Peanuts Naturally” hands-on environmental science fair, featuring Snoopy and other Peanuts characters in science experiments at several stations outside the library.
Also returning for this year’s event will be the Golden Gate Garrison of the 501st Legion, a group that re-creates movie-accurate Star Wars costumes such as stormtroopers and Darth Vader. Members from The Dark Empire, another worldwide Star Wars costuming organization, will also be interacting with Comic Con guests.

Live music will be provided by Margaret & Kristoph, performing the music of “Lord of the Rings” author J.R.R. Tolkien; and by Cartoon Violence, a costumed duo describing themselves as “musical crime fighters (performing) West Coast Nerd Rock.”
Comic Con attendees are encouraged to dress up as their favorite comic, sci-fi, video game, or fantasy characters.
The Menlo Park Library’s Comic Con will take place from 10:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 22 at the Main Library, located at 800 Alma Street. Admission is free, and more details are available online at menlopark.org/comiccon.
