A Personalized College Application Essay Prep Program

The Common Application, which over 700 colleges use, officially became available on August 1st for the 2017-2018 application season.

Although the Common App has helped to streamline the application process for many applicants, most colleges and universities require students to respond to several unique personal insight questions in addition to the personal narrative essay. In an effort to help students navigate this challenging task, I developed my college essay preparation program.

The program offers students an opportunity to discover the topics that best illuminate aspects of their personality and character that admissions officers wouldn't necessarily know from the information provided in the rest of their college application. The writing component of the college application is meant to make applicants appear three dimensionally to admissions committees. This is an important space for students to step outside of all the numbers - their grades and rankings - and to speak for themselves about pivotal experiences in their lives up to this point. Unfortunately, students rarely have adequate experience with this genre of writing to present themselves at their very best. Our discussions and written reflections prepare the student to develop their voice within the framework of the application prompts, and tell a story that is articulate and authentically theirs.
