Facebook Access Restored In East, Midwest After Test

The outage in which users are getting an error message seemed to be isolated to the East and Midwest.

MENLO PARK, CA -- Facebook restored access after an outage that rolled across the East Coast and Midwestern section of the United States was prompted by a standard test.

Users are receiving messages that pop up declaring: "Sorry. Something went wrong. We're working on it and we'll get it fixed as soon as we can."

“Earlier today, a routine test caused users to have trouble accessing or posting to all Facebook services including WhatsApp and Instagram. We quickly investigated and restored access for everyone. We’re sorry for the inconvenience," Facebook's media team announced.

The problem proved far more reaching than users checking social media.

The Troy, Mich., police department sent out a Twitter feed that ordered users: "Please don't call 911 for the Facebook outage. Thanks in advance."
