Feds Threaten Antitrust Probe Of Tech Giants: Report
Facebook, Google and Amazon lead their respective industries in social media, search and e-commerce, making them susceptible for targeting.
MENLO PARK, CA — In an early ruffling of the feathers, the U.S. Department of Justice indicated it is opening a far-reaching antitrust review of “market-leading online platforms" — a term meant as code targeting the giants of the Silicon Valley in the tech industry such as Google, Facebook and Amazon, the Washington Post reported.
The unprecedented probe is intended to explore “widespread concerns that consumers, businesses and entrepreneurs have expressed about search, social media and some retail services online,” according to the agency. No tech firm was singled out, but companies like Menlo Park-based Facebook have been threatened by the government with suggestions of breakup.
