Motorists, Pedestrians Beware: Menlo Park Officers Are Watching
Next Thursday is a day Menlo Park Police officers will have all eyes on the roads and hope motorists and pedestrians do.

MENLO PARK, CA — The police department will conduct a pedestrian safety enforcement operation intended to educate drivers and pedestrians on traffic laws meant to keep them safe on the road.
Officers will be looking for violations on June 27 made by drivers and pedestrians, with special attention geared toward drivers failing to yield to pedestrians in crosswalks, speeding, making illegal turns or not stopping for signs and signals. At the same turn, officers will also stop pedestrians who cross the street illegally, fail to yield to drivers who have the right of way or are distracted while walking, Menlo Park Police indicated.
Pedestrian fatalities are rising at an alarming rate. In 2016, 867 pedestrians were killed on California roads, up nearly 33 percent from 2012, according to the California Office of Traffic Safety.
