Peninsula Suspect Uses Car To Strike Woman, Ram Police Car: M.P.

Menlo Park police said it arrested the man after he injured the woman and tried to ram a police car with a stolen vehicle.

MENLO PARK, CA — A 34-year-old Redwood City man was arrested Friday night on suspicion of attempted murder, when he tried to run over a woman, also in her 30s, with his vehicle as she was filming him arguing with a neighbor, Menlo Park Police reported.

The vehicle driven by Maurice VasquezLopez struck and injured the woman at Nealon Park at about 10:30 p.m. When officers arrived, he tried to ram a police vehicle, which was preventing the suspect from escaping, the department reported.

It was also determined he was driving a stolen vehicle and was believed to be under the influence of alcohol, according to police.

VasquezLopez was taken into custody on suspicion of attempted murder, DUI with injury, assault with a deadly weapon on a police officer, hit and run from an injury collision, possession of stolen property and resisting arrest.

The suspect was transported to Stanford Hospital with non-life threatening injuries sustained during the collision. No officers were injured during the incident.
