UPDATE: Infant Narrowly Escapes Death in Car Crash

Car's occupants fled from the scene in East Palo Alto.

Police are looking for the driver of a Cadillac who crashed into two homes in East Palo Alto this morning and then ran from the scene. Police responded to reports of a crash in the 2100 block of Cooley Avenue at about 5:15 a.m., East Palo Alto Police Sgt. David Carson said.

Officers found that a two-door Cadillac sedan had driven off the street and smashed into two homes, Carson said. The car appeared to have struck the corner of one house and then careened into the garage of an adjacent home, Carson said.

The owner of one of the homes, who did not wish to give her name, said the crash woke her up and caused significant damage to her garage and narrowly missed her sleeping baby, according to CBS 5.

Fortunately a bookshelf absorbed most of the impact, she said. Witnesses said they saw multiple people exit the car. 

Both homes were occupied at the time, though no one was injured. A gas line that was damaged in the crash was quickly shut off by the , Carson said. Police are following up on leads, and the case remains under investigation, Carson said.
