Sand Hill Road Project Hits Speed Bump
PG&E crews had a mishap while installing a gas pipeline in Menlo Park.
An intersection in Menlo Park was at a standstill Tuesday night, after crews repaired a large hole that opened up during a construction mishap. A PG&E contractor was doing some excavation work for on Tuesday afternoon when the small hole created for the project grew larger, PG&E spokesman David Eisenhauer said.
Police said the resulting hole was about 12 feet in diameter. Eisenhauer said it appears the sides of the original hole had not been shored up sufficiently, and "the walls kind of receded."
Crews managed to close up the hole and reopen the intersection that evening. Police said traffic began flowing through the intersection again around 8 p.m.
