Two Clerks In Menlo Park Cited For Selling Alcohol To Minors

The citations were a result of a "minor decoy" operation by Menlo Park police and agents with the California Alcoholic Beverage Control.

MENLO PARK, CA — Menlo Park police and agents with the California Alcoholic Beverage Control cited two clerks on Saturday for selling alcohol to minors in a “minor decoy” operation by authorities.

The operation, where minors under supervision by authorities attempt to purchase alcohol at stores, spanned 12 locations in the vicinity of Menlo Park, according to a news release.

The clerks who were cited face a minimum $250 fine and/or community service for a first-time violation, and ABC can suspend or revoke alcohol licenses for the store.

According to ABC, which provides funding for the program, the percentage of alcohol sales to minors has dropped from as high as 50 percent of the time in some communities to less than 20 percent after the state’s Supreme Court ruled in 1994 that using underage decoys was legal.
