Young Deer Rescued From Rope In Menlo Park
The Peninsula Humane Society freed the young buck's antlers from the rope by using a blowpipe to tranquilize it.

MENLO PARK, CA — A deer was rescued when his antlers were tangled up in a rope tied to a tree near a picnic table outside Menlo Park, the Peninsula Humane Society & SPCA reported Thursday.
The Humane Society said the young buck faced "certain death" in a remote area of private property near Menlo Park on Sept. 3.
"We received a call from a resident of the property, who saw the deer and called us for assistance," spokeswoman Buffy Martin Tarbox said, adding "it’s possible the buck had been trapped in the rope and unable to free himself for a number of days."

Upon arrival at the scene, Humane Society staff saw the deer was indeed in peril and tranquilized him to safely remove the rope from his antlers. A blowpipe was used to inject the deer with the sedative.
"Despite his ordeal, the buck had no injuries, and after about 15 minutes, he woke from the tranquilizer and was able to walk to a nearby creek where he drank water," Tarbox said.

Animals, especially wildlife, may easily become entangled in wire, string and fishing line that can cause life-threatening injuries and even death. The Humane Society encourages people to properly store and clean up debris that can cause harm to wildlife.
PHS/SPCA’s Wildlife Care Center successfully rehabilitates more than 1,200 animals each year and is entirely funded by private donations.
