39 Cited In Pedestrian Safety Crackdown On Peninsula

The operation was held Wednesday at areas deemed high risk for collisions in Burlingame, officials said.

BURLINGAME, CA — Thirty-nine motorists were cited in a one-day, safety-enforcement operation conducted Wednesday, Sept. 11 by the Burlingame Police Department in areas designated as areas reflecting high rates of collisions, according to authorities.

Officers were out in force with a focus on violators of traffic laws, including drivers, pedestrians and bicyclists, the department said.

Forty-five stops were made, police said, with 39 cited for the following infractions:

  • 29 citations issued for violating pedestrian in crosswalk right of way
  • 5 citations issued for distracted driving violations (cell phone violations)
  • 3 citations issued for speeding
  • 2 citations issued for suspended license

Special attention was directed toward drivers speeding, making illegal turns, failing to stop for signs and signals, failing to yield to pedestrians in crosswalks or other violations, police said.

Funding for the program was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
