BART to Halt All Bay Area Trains for Track Repairs

BART has confirmed that it will completely shut down the transbay tube for some five days to do extensive repairs on tracks leading into the tube.

The track was laid 43 years ago and is reaching the end of its lifetime.

BART is showing its age. A section of track in San Francisco recently failed, forcing an emergency shutdown on a weekday that led to transit mayhem. BART also just completed repairs last weekend in the East Bay.

The San Francisco Chronicle reports that the shut down will likely take place the first weekend in August and again over Labor Day weekend. Last year, about 100,000 people rode BART into SF on those days.

A bus bridge will be in place running between the stations.
