DUI Checkpoint Coming Up On Peninsula
The operation is part of the "Drive Sober Or Get Pulled Over" campaign underway.
SAN BRUNO, CA — The San Bruno Police Department will hold a DUI/driver license checkpoint on Wednesday, Aug. 28, at an undisclosed location 6 p.m. to Thursday at 2 a.m., as part of its "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over" enforcement campaign, according to officials.
The department has joined law-enforcement agencies nationwide for the traffic crackdown that runs through Labor Day weekend, Sept. 2, and will have additional officers on the road looking for drivers suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs.
"Labor Day weekend remains one of the deadliest times of year for alcohol-involved crashes," the department said.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, there were 376 deadly crashes nationwide during the 2017 Labor Day holiday period, Sept. 1-5. Among those crashes, more than one-third involved a drunk driver. Last year, two people were killed, and 31 others injured in California on Labor Day alone, police said.
“There are so many ways to get home safely without driving,” San Bruno police Chief Ed Barberini said. “Driving while drunk or high is dangerous, irresponsible and causes too many senseless tragedies. We hope that drivers get the message that driving impaired will never be tolerated.”

The agency reminded residents, who plan on drinking or are taking medications that can affect driving ability, to designate sober drivers or use ride-share services. Those who spot an impaired driver should call 911.
Funding for the DUI enforcement is provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic
Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
