DUI Saturation Patrols Coming Up On Peninsula

Extra officers will be out in force for a day looking for impaired motorists.

SAN BRUNO, CA — The San Bruno Police Department will conduct a DUI-saturation patrol operation on Monday, Sept. 23 from 3:30 p.m. to 11:30 p.m., with officers looking for motorists suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs.

Last year, San Bruno police investigated 10 DUI-related injury collisions which resulted in 11 injuries, and drug-impaired crashes are on the rise in California, the department said. Monday's patrols will take place in areas with a record of high frequencies of DUI collisions and/or arrests.

Police issued a reminder to locals that “DUI Doesn’t Just Mean Booze,” and that motorists taking certain prescription drugs, may be impaired enough to get a DUI. Marijuana can also be impairing, especially in combination with alcohol or other drugs, and can result in a DUI, the agency added.

Funding for the DUI operation is provided to the San Bruno Police Department by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
