Millbrae: What To Know If You're Heading To Earthquakes' Opener At New Avaya Stadium

Driving and transit options to arrive at SJ Earthquakes v. Chicago Fire match on Sunday at the new $100 million facility.

The City of San José, the Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority (VTA) and the San Jose Earthquakes today announced travel, transit and parking options for fans attending upcoming events at Avaya Stadium, 1123 Coleman Rd.

The information comes prior to the upcoming San Jose Earthquakes v. Chicago Fire match taking place at 4 p.m., Sun., March 22 at Avaya Stadium.

For the season opener on Sunday, the City will be actively monitoring traffic throughout the Coleman corridor and mitigate any unanticipated traffic congestion via real-time feedback from traffic, video monitoring and ongoing instantaneous communication with SJPD.

The Earthquakes also worked with VTA to put in place the Earthquakes Shuttle VTA Line 231.

Beginning two hours before game time and then continuing one hour after game completion, the shuttle will make trips to and from Downtown San José with stops at Santa Clara and First, Market and St. John, Market Center on Coleman and Avaya Stadium. In addition, fans have the option of taking VTA Line 10, the free shuttle connecting Caltrain at the Santa Clara Transit Center to the Metro Airport Light Rail Transit station, with drop-off points at Avaya Stadium.

For fans choosing to drive, game day parking is available on-site at Avaya Stadium $25-$40 and can be accessed via Coleman Rd. immediately north of the facility. Event parking is only authorized in the onsite Avaya Stadium lots. Parking on surrounding lots and streets will be subject to possible citations and towing.

Suggested driving directions are as follows:

From San José:

  • Take Hwy. 87
  • Merge onto Hwy. 101 Northbound
  • Take the Trimble Rd./De La Cruz Blvd. exit 391
  • Merge left onto W. Trimble Rd. to continue onto De La Cruz Blvd.
  • Take a slight left onto Coleman Ave. (following signs for Avaya Stadium)

From San Francisco and North Peninsula:

  • Take Hwy. 101 Southbound
  • Take the De La Cruz Blvd. exit
  • Merge onto W. Trimble Rd. to continue onto De La Cruz Blvd.
  • Take a slight left onto Coleman Ave. (following signs for San José)

From Morgan Hill:

  • Take Hwy. 101 Northbound
  • Exit take the Trimble Rd./De La Cruz Blvd. (Exit 391)
  • Merge left onto W. Trimble Rd. to continue onto De La Cruz Blvd.
  • Take a slight left onto Coleman Ave. (following signs for Avaya Stadium)

From Los Altos:

  • Take I-280 Southbound
  • Merge onto I-880 North
  • Take Exit 3, Coleman Ave./Mineta San José International Airport
  • Turn right onto Coleman Ave.

From Walnut Creek:

  • Take I-680
  • Exit at Mission Blvd. West
  • Merge onto 1-880 South
  • Exit at Coleman Ave./Mineta San José International Airport
  • Turn right onto Coleman Ave.

From Oakland/East Bay:

  • Take I-880 Southbound
  • Take Exit 3, Coleman Ave./ Mineta San José International Airport
  • Turn right onto Coleman Ave.

From Santa Cruz:

  • Take Hwy. 17 Northbound (CA-17 North becomes I-880 North)
  • Take the Coleman Ave. exit
  • Turn right onto Coleman Ave.
