Swipe Of Pricey Earrings Leads To Millbrae Arrest: Police

The jewelry, with an $1,800 price tag, was stolen over the weekend by a "shopper" at a Peninsula business.

MILLBRAE, CA — A San Bruno man was arrested over the weekend after allegedly snatching and trying to run off with an $1,800 pair of earrings from a Millbrae jewelry story, according to authorities.

The suspect, identified as Tavake Taufa, reportedly went into Numis International, 301 Broadway in Millbrae, Saturday, and after requesting a clerk show him the earrings from a display case, grabbed the pair and fled the store, the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office said.

One Numis clerk chased the suspect on foot, while another employee called 911, officials said. Deputies from the Millbrae Patrol Bureau soon arrived at the scene, and apprehended the man, deputies said.

The earrings were recovered, and Taufa was booked into the Maguire Correctional Facility in Redwood City, officials said.
