AAA Offers Free Tows On New Year's Eve In NorCal

The automobile club in Northern California is offering free tows to prevent drinking and driving this holiday season.

NORTHERN CALIFORNIA – The Tipsy Tow is back this holiday season. AAA Northern California is offering drivers free tow service to prevent drinking and driving on Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve.

"Be sure you have a plan to get home safely if you're out celebrating this year," said Michael Blasky, spokesman for AAA Northern California in a statement. "If that plan falls through, give AAA a call and we'll get you home."

Blasky told Patch that the program is for the entire Northern California region. The free tow service will be available from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. on Dec. 31.

"We'll try to serve any driver in our region who needs our help," he said.

Anyone needing a free tow can call 1-800-AAA-HELP or 1-800-222-4357 and say you need a "tipsy tow." Provide the driver's name, home address, phone number, and vehicle and driver location.

Tipsy Tow provides a free 10-mile tow and ride home, even if you're not a AAA member. Motorists are charged a standard towing rate for mileage beyond 10 miles. The service does not include roadside assistance.
