D.C. Protest Planned For Point Reyes Tule Elk Protections
PETA supporters said they plan to unfurl a banner that reads: "Save the California Tule Elk! The Buck Stops Here!"
WASHINGTON D.C. — Animal rights activists on Thursday morning plan to hold a rally at the nation’s capital protesting the alleged mistreatment of the tule elk that they attribute to mismanagement at the hands of the National Parks Service.
PETA supporters said they plan to unfurl a banner that reads: “Save the California Tule Elk! The Buck Stops Here!” at the protest.
They’re demanding that the Department of the Interior halt an NPS plan that aims to promote livestock ranching on the Point Reyes National Seashore the protesters say would deplete water resources and sentence a herd of tule elk to death.

Animal rights activists last month held a tule elk protest at Point Reyes Station's Bear Valley Visitor Center.
“The Department of the Interior has an obligation to the American people and the wild animals who call this country home—not to cattle ranching interests,” PETA President Ingrid Newkirk said in a statement.
