Free 'Tipsy Tows' Offered On Labor Day In California

AAA is providing free tows to prevent people from driving while intoxicated this Labor Day.

CALIFORNIA – Labor Day is the unofficial end of summer. To help Californians send off summer safely, AAA is offering free tows on Monday.

Free tow service will be available statewide from 6 p.m. Monday until 6 a.m. Tuesday through the "Tipsy Tow" program, according to the company.

"As Californians enjoy summer's last hurrah, AAA wants to discourage anyone from getting behind the wheel if they are intoxicated," Michael Blasky, spokesman for AAA Northern California, said in a statement. "Tipsy Tow provides a simple solution for getting motorists home safely while making the roads safer for everyone."

Drivers, passengers or anyone who would like to hail a ride for an intoxicated motorist just need to call 1-800-AAA-HELP or 1-800-222-4357 and ask for a "tipsy tow." You do not need to be a AAA member to use the service.

Tipsy Tow provides a free tow and ride of up to 10 miles for any driver. Motorists are charged a standard towing rate for mileage beyond 10 miles.
