Nearly 34 miles of paved access roads will be closed to the public for nine weeks during the initial phase of the $49.1 million project.
MARIN COUNTY, CA — Major improvements to nearly 34 miles of paved access roads in the Chimney Rock and Lighthouse areas of the Point Reyes National Seashore will begin Monday, the National Parks Service said.
The roads will be closed to the public for nine weeks during the initial phase of the $49.1 million project that will be performed over two construction seasons from April to November.
Significant improvements in accessibility and safety will be made to two popular Point Reyes National Seashore roads — Chimney Rock and Lighthouse. Contractors also will start roadwork at the same time on the western end of Sir Francis Drake Boulevard, the National Park Service said.

While the Point Reyes National Seashore is part of a county and state shelter-in-place order, the Federal Highways Administration, Marin County and National Park Service have identified the project as a critical infrastructure project and an essential government activity.
Conducting the work and implementing closures at this time will result in reduced delay and inconvenience to the public in the future, the National Park Service said.
