Margot Robbie, Andrew Garfield, Greta Gerwig To Receive Mill Valley Film Fest Awards

The Mill Valley Film Festival honors Margot Robbie, Andrew Garfield and Greta Gerwig with Spotlight awards. Plus, photos from 2017 MVFF.

The Mill Valley Film Festival celebrates the last two days of its 40th edition by honoring Margot Robbie, Andrew Garfield and Greta Gerwig with the 2017 MVFF Spotlight Awards.

The Spotlight programs will feature onstage conversations with the honorees, and a screening of their latest movie projects. Robbie and Garfield will be presented with the MVFF awards on Saturday, Oct 14, while Gerwig will be honored on Sunday, Oct 15.

Robbie’s breakout Hollywood role as Leonardo DiCaprio’s wife in Martin Scorsese’s “The Wolf of Wall Street” brought the Australian actress more featured roles in “Focus,” “Z for Zachariah,” “Suicide Squad,” “The Legend of Tarzan,” “Goodbye Christopher Robin,” and her titular role in “I, Tonya" as figure skater Tonya Harding. The black comedy about Harding's rise and fall will be screened at the fest.

Garfield has won the hearts of moviegoers and critics alike with his widely acclaimed performances in “Angels in America,” “The Social Network,” “99 Homes,” and “Hacksaw Ridge,” for which he earned an Oscar nomination for best actor. The Spotlight program will feature a screening of his new film, “Breathe,” in which he plays a man living with a polio.

Writer-director Gerwig, whose more notable films include “Greenberg,” “Frances Ha,” and “Mistress America,” will present her solo directorial debut, "Lady Bird," which is a love letter to her California hometown of Sacramento. The semi-autobiographical film will close this year’s fest on Sunday, Oct 15.
