The arraignment of Carlos Aldana, the Marin City man who was shot by U.S. Park Police in San Francisco after he allegedly killed his mother, was postponed today because Aldana remains hospitalized in Santa Clara County.
Aldana, 22, was taken from the Marin County jail for "mental health and safety reasons" to a Santa Clara mental health facility, Deputy Public Defender Michael Schroettner told Marin County Superior Court Judge Andrew Sweet this morning.
Deputy District Attorney Geoff Iida then told Sweet this morning he learned Aldana was then taken to a Santa Clara hospital because of an infection related to his gunshot wounds. Iida said Aldana was in critical condition.

Sweet postponed Aldana's arraignment until Thursday. Aldana is suspected of fatally stabbing his mother Rosa Aldana, 44, in her apartment on Cole Drive in Marin City.
Her body was found after Marin County sheriff's deputies received a request around 11:10 p.m. Aug. 23 to check on her welfare, Marin County sheriff's Lt. Jamie Scardina said.

A person who had returned to the apartment before deputies arrived noticed the front living room was completely covered in blood and called 911, Scardina said.
The California Highway Patrol then received a report about a man covered in blood boarding a San Francisco-bound Golden Gate Transit bus at Donahue Street in Marin City.
U.S. Park Police located the bus at Fillmore and Chestnut streets, Scardina said. When the blood-covered rider got off the bus, he threatened the U.S. Park Police officers with the knife.
Officers then shot the man, later identified as Carlos Aldana, several times. He was taken to San Francisco General Hospital, the lieutenant said.
Detectives are interviewing witnesses and family members to determine a motive for the slaying.
