Mill Valley Fire Department Promotes New Captain
Captain Zach Sweeney is filling the vacancy left by the promotion of Southern Marin Fire District Battalion Chief Jason Golden.
MILL VALLEY, CA — The Mill Valley Fire Department earlier this month promoted Zach Sweeney to the rank of captain. He will serve in his new role at at Mill Valley's Station 9 on the C-Shift.
In a news release, the department said Sweeney will fill the vacancy left behind after the promotion of Jason Golden to the rank of Southern Marin Fire District Battalion Chief. A formal swearing-in ceremony was held for Golden on Wednesday.
Sweeney has worked for the City of Mill Valley since 2013, according to the release. He was selected to serve as captain after a multiple-step evaluation.

"Southern Marin Fire District is exceedingly proud of Zach and we are confident in his ability to take on this responsibility ensuring he can deliver the highest quality of service with professionalism and passion," the release reads.
The department said its captains are vital to the community, overseeing fire station and emergency operations and acting as front-line ambassadors between the department and the community it serves.

"We trust them in ensuring our values and mission are carried out to the highest standards possible," the release states. "Our community will not call for our services if they do not trust and respect us. It's a heavy mantel to bare."
