Mill Valley Student Wins Marin County Junior High Spelling Bee
William Chui, a seventh grader from Mill Valley Middle School, won the contest at the Marin County Office of Education in San Rafael.

MILL VALLEY, CA — A student from Mill Valley Middle School won the Marin County Junior High Spelling Bee Championship over the weekend.
William Chui, a seventh grader, won the the countywide contest Saturday at the Marin County Office of Education in San Rafael. The winning word was "peignoir."
Thirteen students from seven Marin public and private schools — all champions from previously held school spelling bees —participated in the championship.

Mark Salama, an eighth grader, from Good Shepherd Lutheran School, won second place. William and Mark, who both received trophies, will represent Marin at the California State Junior High Spelling Bee Championship on May 2, 2020, in Marin.
Giselle Shih, a seventh grader from Sinaloa Middle School, placed third; Eric Mittelman, a seventh grader from Del Mar Middle School, placed fourth; Farhan Khaliq and Aditya Kolekar, seventh graders from Mill Valley Middle School, tied for fifth place; and Stas Tananaev, an eighth grader from White Hill Middle School and Asrith Nandi, a seventh grader from Miller Creek Middle School, tied for sixth place. They received special ribbons.

The spelling bee program is coordinated by the Marin County Office of Education.
