Umbrellas in one hand, plates and wine glasses in the other, attendees at Sunday’s Wine and Gourmet Food Tasting didn’t let a little rain get in the way of tasting some of the finest vintages and culinary delights of the Bay Area.
Beneath the white tents pitched in Depot Plaza, people sampled bottles from more than 60 wineries as part of the Chamber of Commerce’s largest annual fundraiser.
The event marked a year since Executive Director Daniel Escalzo took over the chamber, and it’s seen a 45 percent growth in membership since then, he said. The business organization also commissioned a new logo, launched a new website, and renewed its $39,392 professional services agreement with the city.
Last year, the Wine and Gourmet festival, which is co-hosted by Mill Valley Market, drew a crowd of around 1,400 people and raised $24,000 for the chamber. Escalzo expects to have a headcount and the dollar amount from this year's event later in the week.
