2 Dead, 5 Injured In Suspected DUI Crash On San Jose Highway 101

A 21-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence and gross vehicular manslaughter.

SAN JOSE, CA — A suspected DUI crash early Sunday on the Highway 101 north ramp to Interstate 280/680 left two people dead and five injured, the Mercury News reported.

Esteban Aguilar Jimenez, 21, of San Jose, was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence and gross vehicular manslaughter, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Authorities said the crash was reported around 4:10 a.m., when Jimenez, driving a Dodge Charger, collided with a Nissan Rogue while trying to overtake it at high speeds.

A 61-year-old woman who was a rear passenger in the Nissan was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver, a 34-year-old man, was taken to Regional Medical Center, where he died. The injured included another passenger in the Nissan and three passengers in the Dodge. Jimenez was taken to Valley Medical Center and will be booked in Santa Clara Jail once he is released from the hospital, according to the Mercury News.

The crash shut down the Highway 101 ramp for several hours Sunday morning.
