Attempted Strong-Arm Robbery Suspect Arrested In Milpitas

A man suspected of punching a woman during an attempted robbery in Milpitas was arrested, police said.

MILPITAS, CA — A 35-year-old man was arrested in connection with a violent attempted robbery in Milpitas, police said Thursday.

Police received a report around 7:32 p.m. Tuesday of an attempted strong-arm robbery on the 100 block of Sierra Way. A 52-year-old woman said that a suspect confronted her as she left a nearby business, punched her, causing her to fall to the ground, and tried unsuccessfully to take her wallet from her hand.

Around 7:21 a.m. Wednesday, police responding to a report of a disturbance inside a business on the 1700 block of South Main Street came into contact with Sir William Matthew Alexander, whom officers recognized from previous contacts and who matched a description given by Wednesday's attempted robbery victim. The victim arrived at the scene and identified Alexander as the suspect.

Alexander was arrested and later booked at the Santa Clara County Jail on suspicion of attempted robbery and battery.
