Free Admission To California Redwoods State Parks 2018

Your family can get free admission via the Second Saturdays celebration. Here's a link to get your free pass.

CALIFORNIA — If you grew up in California, you likely have memories of wandering in hushed beauty among the redwoods, marveling at the circumference of the trunks and nearly falling over backwards looking up to see the tops. You have the chance to marvel again, for free, this year as Save the Redwoods League and California State Parks mark 100 years of saving California redwoods by offering free day-use admission to more than 40 redwood state parks.

If you’ve never experienced the redwoods, here’s what John Steinbeck had to say about them in Travels With Charley, “The redwoods, once seen, leave a mark or create a vision that stays with you always. From them come silence and awe. They are ambassadors from another time.”

The free admission will happen on the second Saturday of every month in 2018. You need a free pass - a link is below.

“People come from around the world to walk among California’s ancient redwoods,” said Sam Hodder, President and Chief Executive Officer of Save the Redwoods League. “As part of our Centennial celebration, Save the Redwoods League is thrilled to host a free day in the redwood parks once a month all year long. We invite you to stand under the world’s tallest living creatures - the most powerful forest in the fight against climate change - and learn why we are working so hard to protect and restore it. We are celebrating our 100th birthday in the redwood parks, and we want you to join us!”

The Centennial celebration includes free guided hikes, a world renewal dance by the Native American Tolowa Nation, and more events as the year unfolds. Free resources are available to help parents immerse their children in the knowledge and beauty of the redwoods.

“Free Second Saturdays at Redwood State Parks events are among many successful programs in the long history of our collaboration with Save the Redwoods League,” said Lisa Mangat, California State Parks Director. “Together, we work through our state parks to support the health, inspiration and education of all Californians. Free Second Saturdays at Redwood State Parks events allow people who might not otherwise be able to visit a park to get outdoors in our spectacular redwood state parks.”

Redwood parks are scattered from the Oregon border to the Big Sur area south of Monterey. You only need one pass per vehicle. The free admission passes are limited, and you must obtain them in advance. Right now, there are just three parks with passes still available for Feb. 10. The passes for March will be available at 8 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 26.
