Milpitas Burning Up Pot Shops Ban
After placing a moratorium on cannabis dispensaries, the Milpitas City Council appears headed toward allowing for this industry by 2019.

MILPITAS, CA -- The outright ban on marijuana operations seems to be going up in smoke. The Milpitas City Council opted this week to put into place a plan to allow for up to 10 operating pot-related businesses by 2019, according to a report by the San Jose Mercury News.
The suggestion is up to four dispensaries and six non-retail cultivators. The vote was split, the Mercury News story added. Among the "no" votes was Mayor Rich Tran, who cited a community survey favoring keeping the controversial businesses out.
Adequate taxation of these businesses has been on the forefront since last New Year's state-imposed deadline for local jurisdictions to have their preferred plan in place. California voters followed Colorado's during last November's general election in allowing for the business under Proposition 64. Since then, Colorado has seen a windfall of money flow into its coffers.
