Milpitas Woman Killed In I-880 Crash

BREAKING: The CHP is seeking the hit-and-run driver responsible for her death.

MILPITAS, CA — A Milpitas woman was killed on Friday afternoon when she and her husband were rear-ended on Interstate Highway 880 in Hayward by a driver who fled the area, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Amy Yuen, 72, was identified as the person killed in the crash.

She was a passenger in the 1999 Acura that her 75-year-old husband was driving that day, CHP officials said.

They were on southbound Highway 880 near Tennyson Road at about 2:10 p.m. Friday when the driver of a black and white Ford Mustang hit them from behind. The impact sent the Acura crashing into the concrete sound wall on the west end of the highway, according to the CHP.

The Mustang fled the area. Both Yuen and her husband were taken to Eden Medical Center in Castro Valley, but Yuen died there. Her husband suffered only minor injuries.

CHP Officer Joseph Fowler said that the witnesses the CHP has found so far described the car but did not record its license plate and were unable to provide a description of the driver.

The CHP is asking for any witnesses to call the Hayward area CHP office at (510) 489-1500.
