San Jose Man Identified As Accident Victim

The pedestrian was knocked down and run over by a dump truck.

SAN JOSE, CA —A man who was fatally struck by a dump truck in the parking lot of a metal recycling yard in San Jose last week has been identified by the Santa Clara County medical examiner's office as 71-year-old Joseph Moreno.

The collision was reported at 2:24 p.m. on July 19 in the lot of a recycling yard in the 1900 block of Monterey Highway.

Moreno, a San Jose resident, was walking through the parking lot while pushing a shopping cart when a dump truck hit him. He fell to the ground and the truck ran over him, police said.

Moreno was pronounced dead at the scene and the dump truck driver remained at the scene to cooperate with investigators, according to police.

Drugs and alcohol are not considered likely factors in the fatality.

Moreno was the 11th pedestrian to die in collisions on San Jose city streets this year, police said.
