Lightning Strike Fires Burn 100 Acres In Santa Clara County
Firefighters battled a string of wildfires triggered by lightning northeast of Milpitas.

BRENTWOOD, CA —Several wildfires ignited by lightning burned about more than 500 acres Sunday morning northeast of Milpitas in Santa Clara County and in Contra Costa County around Marsh Creek and Round Valley Regional Park.
Firefighters are battling a large fire outbreak in the area of Arroyo Hondo and Oakridge roads northeast of Milpitas in Santa Clara County, Cal Fire said Sunday afternoon.
The Marsh Fire, reported before 2 p.m., is burning at three locations and totals about 585 acres, according to Cal Fire.

The fire is one of several in the region triggered by a rare lightning storm that saw more than 2,500 lightning flashes in the area. As of 2:30 p.m. Sunday afternoon, the fires were 0 percent contained, according to Cal Fire.

About 25 units were on scene battling the string of lightning-caused blazes in the region, according Cal Fire officials. Air support from East Contra Costa Fire Protection District has been called in. The Marsh Creek area fire is one of several brush fires in the area known as the Deer Complex fires triggered by lightning. Also on Sunday, fire crews extinguished a 50-acre brush fire in Livermore and several fires are burning in the area of Morgan Territory.
