Students at Merryhill Preschool in Milpitas Create a Sustainable Garden for Earth Day

In celebration of Earth Day, students created a sustainable vertical garden by planting repurposed fruits and vegetables, rather than seeds

In celebration of Earth Day, students at Merryhill Preschool on Corning Avenue in Milpitas created a vertical garden using fruits and vegetables that they repurposed. As part of a lesson in sustainability, students were challenged to reproduce a fruit or vegetable without using seeds. After successfully growing celery, tomatoes, carrots and onions, the students planted the fruits and vegetables in vertical planters they made from recyclable materials, such as milk cartons, water bottles and large Lego blocks. Students will continue to care for the garden as the fruits and vegetables grow. Merryhill Preschool teaches the importance of community and exploring nature at a young age.
