Amid Ruby's Diner Closures Fans Look To Mission Viejo Location

These iconic Ruby's Diners, fixtures at the end of Southern California piers since the 80s, have fallen victim to the coronavirus pandemic.

MISSION VIEJO, CA — After announcements of Ruby's Diner closing pier locations in Oceanside and Huntington Beach, residents, friends, and fans have been bombarding the original Balboa Pier location and Ruby's Diners across Orange County, with the number one question: "Are you staying open?"

According to the management, that answer is "yes."

The original location at Balboa Pier is to remain open, as are the Ruby's Diner locations in Anaheim, Carlsbad, Citadel, Corona Del Mar, Laguna Beach, Laguna Hills, Mission Viejo, Orange, Palos Verdes, San Clemente, Tustin, Whittier, Brinton Lake, and the airport locations.

"We are so incredibly grateful for the overwhelming support we have received (in the time) since announcing the closure of our HB and Oceanside locations," they wrote on Facebook. "The memories and photos shared have truly warmed our hearts, and we will cherish them forever."

According to a restaurant spokesperson, many have asked if all Ruby's locations are shutting down.

"This is not true at all," they wrote. "A lot of our locations across Orange County and beyond are still open and serving our famous burgers, shakes, and fries!"

The mile-or-so stretch of the Balboa Pier is a great walk for young lovers and families, and one with a reward at the end. Ruby's Diner has sat at this location since 1982. It is the place of milkshakes and sunsets, a reward for tired little feet, or a chance to ask local fishermen how the fish are biting.

Ruby’s Diner first opened its doors on December 7, 1982, on Balboa Pier in Newport Beach, California.

"Who would have thought a small shack sitting on the end of a pier surrounded by the Pacific Ocean would be the start of something truly magical?" they wrote on their website. Indeed, it is a small, white shack that was converted to look like an "old-timey diner."

Ruby’s Diner serves quality burgers, shakes, and fries, with the motto: “Only the Best for Our Guest."

Whether the menu or the prime location at the tip of the pier, Ruby's prides itself on friendly service and great food. Closing the iconic locations at the end of the Huntington Beach Pier and Oceanside Pier was difficult for all to digest.

"We are deeply saddened to be closing our doors, but we are so thankful for all the wonderful memories that were shared over the years at the end of these two iconic piers," the spokesperson said. "To the HB and Oceanside community, thank you so much for your unwavering support since we first opened our doors. It’s been such a pleasure to serve you over the years."
