Avengers Campus Opens July 2020 At Disney California Adventure

Imagineers have thought of everything you've ever wanted to see, touch, experience, and taste with the newest land set to open this summer.

ANAHEIM, CA — If you've been to Disney California Adventure lately, chances are you've witnessed the Stark barricade walls or caught a glimpse of the Avengers Campus. Those buildings have taken shape, promising the land is closer to ever to opening. Disneyland's newest attraction, with a Marvel comics-related theme, is scheduled to open on July 18, the theme park announced Wednesday.

The latest land has taken up residence in place of the beloved Bugs Land at Disney California Adventure Park. Fans, young and old, are looking forward to the new concept, which focuses on Spider-Man and his superhero team of Iron Man, Doctor Strange, Ant-Man, and the Wasp. Guests will be referred to as "recruits" to that team.

The Disney Imagineers have created a story for the new land, centering around Spider-Man, the reluctant hero of the park.

The main attraction ride focuses on one of his daring adventures. The park put out a casting call for acrobatic actors this spring.

Guests (or Recruits) will first begin at Worldwide Engineering Brigade, also known as WEB. There, they will see Peter Parker, the secret identity of Spider-Man, who has been recruited by Tony Stark to make new inventions to help the guests become superheroes, so the story goes.

From the WEB Slinger vehicle, recruits can sling their webs and help Spider Man in an epic 3D battle, to help Spider-Man round up renegade Spider-Bots before they rampage through the campus.

Avengers At The Campus:
Love Black Panther? He'll be there, too, along with his elite Wakanda guards. Guests will also still be able to help Rocket rescue the Guardians of the Galaxy at the Collector's Fortress.

Iron Man also will get a chance to show off his new armor, the Mark 80.

Doctor Strange will train guests in the "mystic arts" at his "ancient Sanctum." The Sanctum is a self-guided exploration attraction.

A new villain, Taskmaster, may appear on the campus and battle some favorite heroes: Black Widow, Thor, Captain America, and Captain Marvel.

"When we set out to create these extraordinary Super Hero experiences across the globe, we designed a new Spider-Man attraction for Disney California Adventure park. It's an immersive land with amazing character experiences," said Scot Drake, portfolio creative executive for Walt Disney Imagineering. "We also crafted an original story that ties all the experiences together in ways that are authentic to these characters. We worked side-by-side with teams that brought the Avengers films and comics to life to create a place that champions the next generation of heroes."

Just as Tony Stark, aka Iron Man, offered up his Manhattan mansion in Marvel comic books to the Avengers, the character provides the campus in the theme park, according to the story.

Avengers Campus Stores & Merchandise:
The land and attraction centers around making your own superhero story. Expect STEM-related merchandise, which extends the story and the science behind all of your favorite Super Heroes, the park says. Children of all ages can play with the "compound kits" from WEB Suppliers inside the campus.

Using these kits, guests can learn the science behind their favorite Super Heroes as they create webs like Spider-Man or Gamma Glow Goo inspired by the Incredible Hulk. Avengers Campus opens July 18, 2020. (David Roark/Disneyland Resort)

Avengers Campus Food & Beverage Options:

Pym Test Kitchen we're told to expect a "weird and wonderful menu."

Based upon the preview, this will be your spot to go for lunch, if you dare try what scientist Hank Pym, aka Ant Man and Giant Man, creates with his "Pym Particles." Each menu item is named as an experiment, and you'll see changes the size of various snacks and sandwiches.

At Pym's Tasting Lab, guests can enjoy some "grown up" craft beer, along with "snack molecules" including popped sorghum and mini pretzels.

What else will you be able to eat? Avengers fans will get to try Tony Stark's favored meal at the Shawarma Palace.

Avengers Headquarters is central to the attraction, and it is where guests will catch members of the Avengers heading into action.
