Bathgate Elementary launches Innovation Lab
ScholarShare dollars gives $15,000 grant to Mission Viejo School
Mission Viejo’s Bathgate Elementary is gearing up to launch their Innovation Lab on October 24, 2018. Last year, Bathgate was the proud winner of a $15,000 grant from ScholarShare529. The grant program is California’s official 529 college savings plan, dedicated to ensuring that our state’s students are well-positioned to achieve great things.
All through the summer, Bathgate’s staff researched and worked together to put together a STEM/Innovation lab geared towards helping our students engage in scientific learning through real world applications.

Bathgate hopes to encourage students to develop a passion for science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) by starting them young. The Innovation Lab will focus on engaging every single one of their students with cool new learning techniques.
Within the first two weeks of the Innovation Lab’s opening, each class from Bathgate will have rotated through the facility and had an opportunity for hands on learning. The Innovation Lab will feature spheros for coding, green screen technology, and maker space from TWO BIT CIRCUS.

The ribbon cutting ceremony will be led by CUSD District Directors and Representatives from ScholarShare529, as well as Bathgate Elementary School’s Board Members.
Students have been preparing and training as “student innovation ambassadors” and are excited to share with others what they learned during opening night.
“We are excited that this type of classroom prepares our children for the jobs of the future,” says Frances Mackay, CUSD STEM Lead Teacher.
