5 California Attractions Join TIME's 'World's Greatest Places'

Every year, TIME names 100 of the best destinations in the world. In 2019, a galaxy far, far away joined that coveted list.

ANAHEIM, CA — Five California attractions, restaurants and places to stay have joined the coveted Greatest Places list of 2019, according to TIME magazine. Disneyland Resort's attraction, Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge, was fourth on the list of places to visit around the world.

The list includes places to visit, to stay, as well as places to eat and drink in the world. The Disneyland attraction placed fourth behind the Geosea Geothermal Sea Baths of Iceland, Camp Adventure of Denmark and the Mori Building Digital Art Museum of Japan.

"TIME Magazine measured the land across quality, originality, innovation, sustainability, and influence," Thomas Smith, Content Director of Disney Parks said in a recent announcement.

TIME said Disneyland made its 2019 Greatest Places list because the resort's largest-ever land expansion showed a "shift in the theme park's nostalgic identity toward more futuristic experiences."

The greatness of a place or experience can best be measured "by the feeling that you have "stumbled upon the extraordinary," TIME Magazine said.

The magazine took nominations for many categories, including museums, parks, restaurants and hotels.

Since opening at Disneyland Resort on May 31, Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge visitors have shared their stories on social media sites as they explore the remote planet of Batuu, and the ride, Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run. Still, you get out of the land what you bring with you. The longer you stay — and with the addition of the Disney Play App — the more experiences you can have with the panels, droids and cast members throughout the park in this genuinely interactive land, in Patch's experience.
