Seventy-five years ago, the United States celebrated the official end to World War II--VJDay--when a delgation of the Emporer of Japan boarded the U.S.S. Missouri and signed the documents of surrender. For those who had fought and surived, it was a day of celebration that the bloody six-year war was finally over. This month, to celebrate the 75th Anniversary of the End of WWII, the Mission Viejo Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution located over a dozen Orange County WWII veterans and presented them with Certificates of Honor for their service in the military during WWII and to show them their sacrifice and service to our country has not been forgotten. The certificates were hand-delivered by a delegation of four DAR members who are part of the Chapter's Service For Veterans Committee. Each veteran and his or her family were appreciative of the certificates and especially enjoyed the personal manner in which they were presented. All the veterans that were visited are between the ages of 92 and 100. More WWII veterans will receive certificates during the month of September.
