Dog Park Price Tag May Rise Above $1 Million Monday
Costs of irrigating park shrubs would bring the total construction contract to over $1 million.

Another $198,000 for the Mission Viejo dog park is being requested Monday to install shrub irrigation.
If approved, the $198,000 change order to city contractor GMC Engineering would provide irrigation lines and heads for shrubs at the Felipe Road park being built south of Gilleran Park.
The project's base construction bid came out to $888,888 and was approved in July. But that didn't include this irrigation, according to a staff report.
After community groups showed interest in helping plant the park, more money for irrigation became necessary, according to the report.
"The current project under construction is a bare bones project that was designed, overtime, to engage the community," the report reads. "The irrigation needed to accomplish the planting was not part of the base bid."
If approved, the irrigation change order will bring the total construction contract to $1,086,888.
The Mission Viejo City Council next meets in public session Monday, Nov. 4 at 6 p.m. at City Hall, 200 Civic Center.
