Kids facing difficult life circumstances got a boost from Mission Viejo police Tuesday morning at the Target on Alicia.
For the second year in a row, Mission Viejo deputies participated in "Heroes and Helpers," formerly "Shop with a Cop."
Target donated $1,000 to 15 students in grades 3-8. The Orange County Sheriff's Department chipped in another $500 and Mission Viejo city staff helped organize and run the event, Mission Viejo police chief Brad NewMyer said.
"Some of these kids had to be told to buy things for themselves," NewMyer said.
The students snatched up gifts for brothers, sisters and parents as they filled their baskets.
