Mission Viejo DAR Day of Service
Mission Viejo Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution Cleans Up at Aliso Beach!

Aliso Beach is cleaner today thanks to the Mission Viejo Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution. The group celebrated its National Day of Service on October 10 by collecting trash that has accumulated there. Fifteen members, plus family and friends, participated in the cleanup effort, collecting a total of 15 large bags of trash. According to Chapter Regent Maryann Herrera, “We followed CDC guidelines and the Coastal Commission recommendations in our beach clean-up.” Members came equipped with masks, gloves and tongs and enjoyed a beautiful day of making Aliso Beach a cleaner place to visit. Other members who were unable to come to the beach cleaned up parks and streets in their areas. “We got many 'thank you's from local beach-goers and surfers who appreciated what we were doing!” Herrera said.
“Because of COVID-19, there were no official group beach clean-ups this year,” Herrera said. “Typically groups such as the Coastal Commission, Ocean Conservancy, and Surfriders organize big clean-ups during the month of September.” These groups now suggest that local groups organize clean-ups in their own neighborhoods and local natural areas.
The National DAR Day of Service takes place each year on or around October 11 to honor the anniversary of DAR’s founding on October 11, 1890. Chapters and individuals all around the country are encouraged to engage in meaningful service projects in their communities each year on that anniversary.
