Mission Viejo Girls Softball All Stars Raise Funds For Hit-A-Thon

These Mission Viejo Girls Softball All-Stars are raising funds for an upcoming Hit-A-Thon. MVGS is a non-profit youth sports league.

MISSION VIEJO, CA — It's softball time again in Mission Viejo, and kids from across the city are raising funds for the Mission Viejo Girls Softball league. The hit-a-thon, a fundraiser for the MVGS league, helps reduce the costs involved with joining a travel team, according to father Juan Perez. His daughters Keely and Kaelyn are both playing as all stars for the league this year.

"Both Keeley and Kaelyn have worked very hard this year and were lucky enough to make 2018 All Star teams,: Perez said on his GoFundMe page. An inventive father, he's using GoFundMe to gather donations from family and friends for the non-profit league. "The girls are looking forward to an awesome All-Star season and appreciate any and all donations."

For the 2018 Hit A Thon, a league-only affair, the kids will get five swings to hit the ball as far as they can. The player with the longest distance from home will win. According to Perez, it's a big gathering and barbecue in a celebratory atmosphere for the kids. Funds raised can go toward paying league registration fees, which can be hefty when you have more than one girl playing softball, according to Perez.

Other parents have reached out to family and friends through the new Facebook Donations feature, such as Lexy Veltz. Pledges will go toward the girl's fees to the league.
