Mission Viejo Resident Honored for Providing Outstanding Care

Lisa Colavita, clinical home health and marketing coordinator at Memorial Care Home Health, LLC and Co-Founder of Healthy Brain Club, has been awarded the May/June Oliver Halsell Care Award for her commitment to making a difference in the lives of those living with chronic diseases. Colavita’s honor comes from Fairhaven Memorial Park & Mortuary and Fairhaven Memorial Services, which recognizes six dedicated individuals annually for providing exceptional care that improves the lives and spirits of everyone they touch.

At the young age of 12 years old, Colavita was unexpectedly diagnosed with a rare neurological disorder that affected every aspect of her life. After years of suffering, she was finally prescribed a clinical trial medication that was successful in managing her symptoms, but she could not have done it alone. By using support groups and seminars, she was able to find tremendous hope for the future. From this experience, Colavita became driven to dedicate her career to working with nonprofits and assisting those suffering with chronic illnesses and diseases such as Parkinson’s, Mild Cognitive Impairment, Alzheimer’s, Dementia, Epilepsy, Multiple Sclerosis, and many other neurological diseases. More than a decade later, she continues to be motivated by helping others when they need it most.

“Lisa succeeds best by actually doing what needs to be done,” said Deborah Pierson, former Seniors Volunteer Program Manager at OneOC. “She contains a great depth of self-direction and integrity, propelled by her passion to make a difference within any realm of her life, professionally as well as personally. When provided with a project or challenge, she exceeds expectations with the greatest ease due to her care-driven heart. The combination of leadership and camaraderie she embodies is not easily mastered. Lisa demonstrates the balance of both.”

Colavita was nominated by Pierson, who praised her for her endless passion and dedication to helping others and doing so with nobility and grit.

We are proud to recognize people like Lisa who continuously go above and beyond their call of duty to help others.”

In November 2019, Colavita will be recognized with five other local honorees at the 7th annual Oliver Halsell Care Awards banquet. Additionally, Fairhaven will donate to the Community Civic Association (CCA) that serves Laguna Woods and surrounding areas with health and wellness-related education.
