MISSION VIEJO, CA — They say skateboarding is not a crime, but graffiti is. At Mission Viejo's Beebe Park, officials were called to the scene over graffiti that was tagged across the Beebe Sportspark building and dry skater pool this week.

Mission Viejo police have asked for residents' help in identifying the taggers.

"Recently, our skate park was vandalized causing the city thousands of dollars to repair or clean," Mission Viejo Police Services reported over Facebook.

It appears the word “DALE” was written several times, they said, however, residents have suggested it might actually read "Dave."

"The vandal or vandals struck one week ago, between 4:30 p.m. and 8:15 a.m. last Saturday morning," according to police.

As this is an open investigation, anyone with information was asked to call dispatch at 949-770-6011 or DM their Facebook page.

The graffiti is similar to other graffiti at the middle school and in the Rancho Santa Margarita area as well, they say.

"It's unfortunate to see this," says Cathryn Madrid. "Kids are bored and have too much time on their hands with schools still not open for in-person, full time, and most everything else still closed: movies, concerts, etc. Idle time."

Residents ran the gamut in conversation, saying that police should install security cameras at that location, or hire security units.

Mother AJ Jones stated that her son says skating at Beebe Park has gotten "aggressive," with "nonlocal kids" and "little supervision. "There is no supervision, so it's not like anyone is looking out for the littles," she said on Facebook.

Others suggested that graffiti is a form of art, and should be left alone.

"It looks cool and will eventually fade from boarding over it," says Kristina Becker." Plus, less money to spend."
