Nail Salons, Estheticians Back To Work In OC: Masks Required

Nail salons are in addition to bars, gyms and theaters, community pools, schools, day camps, museums, galleries, zoos, aquariums, & more.

ORANGE COUNTY, CA — Orange County nail salons are among businesses allowed to reopen, Friday, according to the county board of supervisors. Workers and customers will be required to wear face coverings, according to the state guidelines.

As for other businesses, the state has clear guidelines about mask wearing dos and don'ts.

For those headed for lashes or waxing, "persons who are obtaining a service involving the nose or face for which temporary removal of the face covering is necessary to perform the service."

Mission Viejo's Golden Skin and Lashes is among those businesses who will reopen their doors. Their owner, Cindy Golden, has been hard at work making sure that all safety requirements are met.

We last met Cindy in March shortly after her business was shut down. She used Instagram as a way to stay connected to her customers and to remind all that even though they were not classified as an essential business during the shutdown, they were still essential in other ways.

For many of Mission Viejo's women, lashes and facials are essential.

Golden described one client, a hospice nurse, who considers lashes part of her "armor" as she goes out to fight the COVID-19 battle on the front line.

"She told me our lashes give her the strength and confidence to give her best at what she does while filing through this," Golden wrote. "We are all essential, important and loved. Your job does not define you. I'm here to tell you. You are essential and important to those who you have allowed into your life and chose to serve."

Now, Golden can assist her clients feel good and look good.

The salons reopening is in addition to bars, gyms and theaters, community pools, schools, day camps, museums, galleries, zoos, aquariums, wineries and family entertainment centers received permission last week to reopen in Orange County.

Supervisor Michelle Steel attributed the move to Due to Orange County’s continued low COVID-19 numbers and qualification to move forward on California’s “Resilience Roadmap” Orange County businesses that offer personal services such as nail salons, body waxing and tattoo parlors may open their doors starting Friday, according to OC Chairwoman.

“80 percent of nail salons in California are owned by Vietnamese-Americans, many of which are right here in Orange County. While we have continued to open more businesses, these hard-working people were excluded,” said Steel. “I am delighted that starting tomorrow these nail salons can finally open their doors. It has been far too long and these businesses have suffered as a result. I hope that with this next step, these nails salons will be able to quickly recover from their losses.”
