Spate Of Freeway Shootings Rattle The Southland Over The Weekend

A shooting on the 5 Freeway in Orange County on Sunday night followed two more on the 605 Freeway, including one that left one man wounded.

ORANGE COUNTY CA — Authorities on Monday were investigating a rash of shootings on Southland freeways over a 28-hour period.

Two of the shootings occurred on the San Gabriel River (605) Freeway Saturday in Irwindale and a third occurred Sunday night on the Santa Ana (5) Freeway in Orange County. No arrests have been made in any of the shootings, and authorities are working to determine if they are connected. In of the attacks Saturday, a man was shot.

The latest shooting occurred just before 9 p.m. Sunday on the northbound Santa Ana (5) Freeway near Euclid Street, according to the California Highway Patrol and Fox11.

The driver, who was not injured, told authorities that shots were fired at his car from another vehicle, described as a black Ford Fusion with tinted windows, Channel 11 reported.

That shooting followed two on Saturday night. Just before 11:30 p.m. a man was shot while driving southbound San Gabriel River (605) Freeway near Arrow Highway, the CHP reported. The victim, an Azusa man in his 30s, was taken by paramedics to Los Angeles County/USC Medical Center with a single gunshot wound. His status was not immediately clear.

That shooting came about 5 hours after a shooting the southbound 605 Freeway at Lower Azusa Road, according to the CHP. One vehicle crashed in that shooting, but no one was struck by the gunfire, according to the CHP.

The CHP's Baldwin Park office urged anyone with any information regarding the shooting to call them at 626-338-1164.
